Terms of use
Plain terms for a plain deal: you use the app, your data is yours, the software and our knowledge are ours, and you are responsible for the people you bring into your room.
1 · The deal
By installing or using Common Room you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not install it. If you use it for a company, you agree for the company too.
2 · Your data is yours
Everything you say, write, record or decide in Common Room is yours. It stays on your Mac. We claim no right to it, we cannot see it, and we will never use it to train anything. When you delete it, it is deleted.
3 · The software and the knowledge are ours
We give you a licence to use the app on Macs you own or control, for your own work or your company's. You may not copy the app to sell it, rent it, or pass it off as yours. Our knowledge, the job descriptions, the working methods and the exam papers that the app fetches from our shelf, is sealed to your copy. You may use it inside the app. You may not extract it, publish it, or feed it to another product.
4 · Free and paid
This release is free. A paid tier will come with more knowledge and more seats, under a licence bound to your install key. The price and the terms of the paid tier will be on this site before anyone pays.
5 · Guests, recording and the law where you are
You decide who enters your room. When you invite someone, you are the host: you tell them that the room keeps what is said, and you get their agreement where the law where you are asks for it. Our recording consent page gives you the words and a table by country. We are not responsible for a recording you make without the consent the law asks for.
6 · Things you may not do
- Break into rooms that are not yours, or try to open letters sealed to someone else.
- Forge a pass, a word at the door, or a device key.
- Use the app to harm, harass or deceive people.
- Take our cloud apart, flood it, or use it for anything but the app.
7 · No promise it is perfect
Common Room is given "as is". We work hard to make it right, and we say plainly when a part is not working. We do not promise it is free of faults, always available, or fit for a particular purpose. The brain can be wrong. Read what it writes before you act on it.
8 · Limits of what we owe you
As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect losses, lost profits, or lost data. Keep backups, the way you would with any tool. Where the law does not allow this limit, it does not apply.
9 · Ending
You may stop using the app any time and delete it. We may end your licence if you break these terms. Your data on your Mac stays yours either way.
10 · Changes and the law
We may change these terms. The date and version at the top change, and the app tells you at the next start. These terms are governed by the laws of Hong Kong, and disputes go to the courts of Hong Kong, unless the law where you live gives you a right to something else.
